-How To Prepare For A Successful Newborn

Session At Our Studio-

Preparing For Your Newborn Photo Session

We are looking forward to your upcoming photo session with us. To have the best possible experience during your time in the studio, we offer these suggestions to help you prepare for a successful newborn session at our studio.

With your new baby finally here, you are entering a  new and exciting time in your life and are ready to document his or her first precious memories in photographs. At Jane Goodrich Photography we want to make your newborn session a joyous experience for you and your family.

We know that picture day can be stressful, especially when you are running on little, to no, sleep and caring 24/7 for your newborn baby. To help you out with this process, we’ve compiled a list of preparation tips to ease some of your stress. If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact us at info@janegoodrich.com and we will be happy to answer all of your questions. You can also check out our FAQs page to view some of our most common questions.

  • On the morning of your session, be sure to give the baby a bath (if you can) and bring extra wipes for a last-minute nose cleaning (very important to have a clean nose!) and for eye boogers! They should also be fully fed right before you leave for the shoot. Keep a small towel handy for any burps. Please allow up to 2-3 hours for these sessions. This will allow for set up, feedings, breaks, and sleeping.
  • We keep our studio very warm as we will be unwrapping the babies and any drafts tend to annoy the babies (and make their skin go all funny colors!!) so please dress in layers if you get hot easily!
  • Have plenty of food handy for the shoot (formula, boob, pumped milk all work). If you are breastfeeding please have 2 bottles of pumped milk handy for our shoot. Please note that if you are exclusively breastfeeding, allow additional time for the shoot (can be upwards of 4 hours). Also, if you are breastfeeding, PLEASE try to avoid gas inducing foods for 24 hours prior to the shoot (ideally 48) so the baby is as comfortable as possible for our shoot!
  • Please also have their pacifier handy if they have one – these are magic to get the babies through the shoot sometimes (or we can just use a burp cloth and your finger if they are suckers – I also have plenty of wrapped pacifiers if we need one)!
  • Most importantly, in this busy time of your life, I want to help you slow down and relax. I want you to enjoy his precious time and to encourage the calm, I do not rush portrait sessions. My goal is to make you and your baby as comfortable as possible. It is within this warm, calm, and relaxed environment that I will be able to capture the artful images you will fall in love with.

Following the steps above will help ensure that you will enjoy your newborn session by starting from the best possible place. The more you are prepared for your session the more you will enjoy the photoshoot process.
