Are you expecting? Yay! Now’s the time to consider setting up a maternity photography session to capture your glowing, baby-growing body at its peak (around 7-8 months) so you have a permanent reminder of just how lovely your pregnant body was once baby arrives. Here are some tips to help you choose the right maternity photographer:
You want to choose a photographer who is experienced in maternity photography, not just one who “dabbles” when it comes up. You really get a very short window for maternity photography (even though it feels like forever), so you want your images to turn out right, the first time.
Every photographer has a different style. Some may have a few styles and be able to adapt to the type of photography you are interested in, while others may only be able to emulate a particular style. Check out their portfolio, if you don’t love the maternity images you see, move on.
Do you see yourself reclined in your favorite chair, standing in a field of wildflowers, or posed against a white or black background? Ensure that the maternity photographer you choose is able to accommodate your request, particularly if it means leaving the studio. Again, looking at their previous maternity photos is a good indication of what they are able to produce. Keep in mind that there may be additional costs associated with offsite sessions, depending on how far the photographer needs to travel.
How other expectant moms feel about their maternity photographers goes a long way towards helping you find one that works for you, so ask your friends and acquaintances for recommendations. Did they feel comfortable during the sessions, were they happy (or ecstatic) with the photos they received and did they feel the final cost was worth it?
How much a maternity photography session costs shouldn’t be your primary or secondary concern, but it should be there somewhere. Beware of overly reasonable session costs, as they usually will recoup the costs by charging you through the nose for prints or with poor editing. You may be better off by looking for complete packages that include all the costs, so you know exactly what the final product will cost. When you’re ready, contact the photographer directly and request a full quote.
Don’t leave your booking until too late – may maternity photographers are booked well in advance.

A fantastic prime lens perfect for portraits
The lens is suitable for any shooting situation, with a lens coating and construction type that are optimized to minimize the ghosting and flare that frequently occurs when lenses are used with digital cameras. The lens also offers an ultra-large aperture that produces a narrow depth of field and the type of soft background blur so loved by photographers everywhere.
