If you’re wondering why nearly everyone recommends the 50mm f/1.8 lens for budding DSLR photographers, you merely have to try one out. Inexpensive (around $100), lightweight, and a good performer, this lens is a perfect portrait lens as it lets in lots of light so you don’t have to worry about dark portrait photos, or (gasp!) using flash.
If you have a few minutes (4:45 to be exact), this post over at Photography Talk features a helpful video on using the 50mm lens to create naturally-lit photos, so you end up with amazing images of whatever it is you want to shoot – whether it’s flower, pets, or your kids. Check it out!
