Halloween is just around the corner, and with it comes the opportunity to have a fun photo shoot with your kids. So what are some great props for spooky children’s photos? Here are a few great suggestions for a Halloween-themed photography of your kids.
If you, or a friend, is having a Halloween party, get some white/black/orange balloons and reuse them in your photo shoot. You can write messages on the balloons with a sharpie – such as boo!
Carve ‘em out and put a baby in them – done! You can also use the same idea as above and write messages, such as the year. Or make a few spooky jack ‘o lanterns and then they can go outside (the pumpkins, not the kids!). If the weather cooperates, head to a pumpkin patch for some variety.
If pumpkins aren’t your thing, or you don’t want to deal with the mess, then head to the dollar store for a few decorations. Black and orange streamers are a great place to start, but you can also look for a few spooky props – including faux pumpkins.
Rather than stuffing babies and young kids into uncomfortable outfits, look for a touch of orange. It could be a crochet pumpkin hat, an orange/black scarf, some beads, etc. Get creative without breaking the bank – head to the dollar store or thrift shop.
You can combine an afternoon of crafting with kids and use the results for amazing kid’s photos. Masks, hats, or other props are perfect. All you need is a few straws and multi-colored paper, plus scissors and maybe some glitter glue. Have fun with it!
For those who prefer outdoor photography, you’ll need a good background to convey a bit of the Halloween spirit. Old churches, abandoned barns or cabins, wrought-iron fences are all great. Also be on the lookout for well-decorated front yards or haunted houses – you can always ask to borrow the scene for a few photos.
Older kids can feature in photos with some candles. Whether in a circle for an overhead shot or on the table for a séance, if you need some quick props and a little light this is an easy way to go.
It’s not hard to get creative when it comes to Halloween children’s photography, so think of the type of kid’s photos you want (spooky, cute, fun, etc.) and find some props that will help do the trick (or treat).
